Final Countdown 3- The Climax

The threat was clear, and the friends realized they’d made a fatal mistake. They’d confronted him without backup, without telling anyone where they were going, and now they were trapped in a room with a corrupt police officer who had everything to lose.

But just as Inspector Sharma reached for his radio to call his accomplices, the office door burst open.

“I thought I might find you here,” said a familiar voice.

Inspector Rajesh Verma – the real Inspector Verma, Mrs. Sharma’s nephew from Landour – stepped into the room with three other officers behind him.

“You!” Inspector Sharma snarled. “What are you doing here?”

“Following up on a very interesting anonymous tip,” Inspector Verma replied calmly. “Someone sent audio evidence of police corruption to our internal affairs department this morning. Imagine our surprise when we recognized your voice, Mohan.”

The FACT Team looked at each other in confusion until Amily suddenly smiled. “Tiger, didn’t you save that recording to cloud storage last night?”

Tiger grinned. “With automatic sharing to a secure email account. I set it to send to Inspector Verma this morning if we didn’t cancel it by 10 AM.”

“You children are even smarter than I thought,” Inspector Verma said approvingly. “And just in time – we’ve already raided the warehouse and found the missing pets, along with evidence of systematic theft from our evidence room.”

Inspector Sharma’s shoulders sagged as he realized his conspiracy had crumbled completely.

“Mohan Sharma,” Inspector Verma said formally, “you’re under arrest for corruption, theft of evidence, animal cruelty, and conspiracy to destroy public records.”

As they led the corrupt inspector away in handcuffs, Inspector Verma turned to the FACT Team with a mixture of admiration and exasperation.

“You four have solved a case that our internal affairs department had been investigating for months. But you also put yourselves in incredible danger.”

“We had to,” Faisal said simply. “No one else was listening to what the animals were trying to tell us.”

“And we knew you’d believe us,” Chaitra added. “Mrs. Sharma said you were someone we could trust.”

Inspector Verma smiled. “Well, you were right about that. And thanks to your evidence, we’ve been able to arrest Sharma’s accomplices as well. The entire corruption ring has been exposed.”

That evening, as the monsoon finally broke and gentle rain began to fall on Dehradun, the FACT Team sat with the recovered pets at Mrs. Kapoor’s flower shop. Whiskers purred contentedly in Chaitra’s lap, while Mitthu perched on Tiger’s shoulder, occasionally squawking fragments of happier conversations.

“I still can’t believe a police inspector was the criminal,” Amily said, sketching the reunion scene in her notebook.

“It just proves that corruption can hide behind any uniform,” Faisal replied wisely. “That’s why people like us need to keep asking questions.”

“People like us?” Tiger asked with a grin.

“The FACT Team,” Chaitra said proudly. “Finders of truth, fighters of injustice, and friends of all creatures great and small.”

As they watched Mrs. Kapoor tearfully cuddle Whiskers, and heard Mitthu cheerfully mimicking the temple bells and evening prayers instead of criminal conversations, the friends felt the deep satisfaction that comes from making their world a little bit better.

“So,” Faisal said as they prepared to head home through the gentle rain, “what do you think our next case will be?”

“Whatever it is,” Amily replied, “we’ll solve it together.”

And in the distance, the lights of Dehradun twinkled like stars, while the FACT Team walked home through the rain, already eager for their next adventure.

But they had no idea that their reputation as young detectives was already spreading through the hill stations, and that their most challenging case yet was about to find them in the most unexpected way.
