Chapter 9: The Truth Revealed

Faisal led them through narrow lanes to the heart of the old city, where a small shop sat tucked between a tea stall and a flower vendor. The sign read “Sharma Electronics Repair.”

“I’ve seen the owner, Mr. Dinesh Sharma, everywhere in the city,” Faisal explained. “He repairs electronics for everyone – rich and poor. He’d know who has valuable things and who needs help.”

They watched the shop from across the street. Mr. Sharma was a middle-aged man with kind eyes who treated every customer with respect, whether they brought an expensive laptop or a broken radio.

“Look,” Tiger pointed out, “he charges rich customers full price, but I’ve seen him give discounts to poor people.”

“And he asks everyone about their families, their problems,” Chaitra observed. “He’s gathering information.”

That evening, they followed Mr. Sharma discreetly as he closed his shop. He walked through the city, but instead of going home, he stopped at various houses – always where someone was in need.

At the home of a widow struggling to pay her son’s medical bills, they watched him quietly leave an envelope. At another house where a family had been cheated by their landlord, he left exactly the amount they needed to find a new place.

“He’s the one,” Amily whispered. “But he’s not really stealing – he’s redistributing wealth from those who have too much to those who have too little.”

The children realized they faced a moral dilemma. Technically, Mr. Sharma was stealing, but he was helping people who desperately needed it.

Chapter 10: Justice with Wisdom

The next morning, the FACT Team met with Inspector Verma and Mrs. Sharma to discuss what they’d discovered.

“Sir,” Faisal began, “we know who the thief is, but we think you should hear the whole story before deciding what to do.”

They explained everything they’d learned about Mr. Dinesh Sharma – how he used his electronics repair business to understand the community’s needs, how he carefully took only from those who had excess, and how he always gave exactly what was needed to those in crisis.

The Anonymous case of Self made Robinhood

Inspector Verma frowned. “But stealing is stealing, regardless of the reason.”

Tiger spoke up clearly. “What if there was another way? What if we could solve this without anyone going to jail?”

The FACT Team had prepared a solution. They proposed that Inspector Verma speak with Mr. Sharma privately, acknowledge his good intentions, but explain that theft was wrong regardless of the motive. Instead, they suggested creating a community fund where wealthy families could voluntarily contribute to help their neighbors in need, with Mr. Sharma helping to identify who needed assistance.

“It would be like what he’s doing now, but legal and transparent,” Chaitra explained.

Mrs. Sharma beamed with pride. “These children have solved not just a crime, but a problem. They’ve found a way to turn wrongdoing into community building.”
